Humood is a 48-year-old Saudi man who is morbidly obese and cannot move or walk, and has not left his house for the past three years.
Humood cannot even hold anything in his hands, rarely talks and is constantly praying to God to heal him, Al-Hayat daily reported. However, he says doctors who visited him at home have told him he is terminally ill and cannot be cured.
"I have been in bed for the past three years as I weigh more than 300 kg. I do not have children or a wife, and I live alone in a rented apartment in the eastern part of Riyadh. I have to pay SR20,000 in rent, while my pension is only SR1,700 a month, of which the bank deducts SR500 toward the money I had borrowed for my upkeep," he said.
He contacted the Ministry of Health for treatment and a medical team from King Abdulaziz Medical City visited him, but he claims that they told him he has elephantiasis and he will soon die. He also claims the team told him to remain at home and await his death.
"I contacted the Ministry of Social Affairs asking them to provide me with a worker to assist me with my daily chores and a wheelchair to allow me to get around, but my request was completely ignored and they did not pay any attention to my case," he said.
He said his neighbors have hired a worker to help him.
In addition to his morbid obesity, Humood is also diabetic. He claimed philanthropists have contacted hospitals abroad regarding his case and they have been told his case can be treated.
Hummod said he wants the Ministry of Health to treat him inside or outside the country.
Dr. Nabil Hamdi of King Abdulaziz Medical City said Humood is suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid problems, and his condition requires immediate surgical intervention.
Allahu Akbar!
