The pop star garnered a lot of attention for a tweet of "#FreePalestine" that appeared online earlier today. The social media message appeared online for roughly eight minutes (just enough time to rack up 6,800+ retweets) before it was deleted. According to sources close to Rihanna, the tweet was accidentally posted.
"She deleted it because it was never meant to be tweeted," a source told TMZ. "She didn't even realize it was a tweet until she started hearing from her fans."
That doesn't sound like the social media savvy Rihanna we know, but that's the explanation from RiRi's camp.
Rihanna's not the only celebrity to post a "#FreePalestine" message on Twitter only to delete it shortly afterwards. NBA All Star Dwight Howard recently posted a tweet of #FreePalestine and promptly pulled it saying it was "a mistake."
