News: Man commits suicide in Akure after finding out he was HIV positive

A 45-year-old man, Abayomi Olanrewaju allegedly committed suicide in Akure, Ondo state, Nigeria after finding out he was HIV positive.
Abayomi who hung himself on a tree with a vehicle fan-belt was said to have hailed from Akure town.
The deceased who was gathered to have been abandoned by his wife and three children after they knew about his HIV status was found early morning on a tree by some passersby, who later raised alarm that attracted other residents.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Mr. Wole Ogodo who confirmed the incident, said that the deceased body had been released to his family.
Ogodo said that the incident occurred behind New Stadium, along Ilesha-Owo Expressway, Akure on 7th April, 2014, upon an information received from the people living around the area before Police swung into action.
According to him, in order to avoid health hazard, Akure South Local Government was initially contacted to remove the body from the tree for burial so as to prevent the widespread of disease. He said the Ministry of Health later intervened in the matter.
