Edward Paddy, the prosecuting Police Chief Inspector told the court presided over by Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the convicts stole the sum of GH 25,000 from a businessman at Tamso, a suburb of Tarkwa, in the Western Region.
He said the convicts, who claimed to be phone hawkers in Accra and residents of Kokomelmle, committed the crime at about 1100 hours on March 19, when the complainant, John Ardiabah, parked his car in front of the cluster of stores near the Tarkwa post office and left the money inside the vehicle.
Paddy said
The prosecutor said as soon as Obilo came out of the car, Nande appeared with a motorcycle, which he quickly jumped on in an attempt to elude.
He said luck, however, ran out on them when a lotto receiver, who was observing, raised the alarm, which attracted other store owners to push down the suspects, before they could get away with the money.
Paddy said the victim’s money was retrieved from the convicts and handed over to the police.
He said during police investigations, Obilo and Nande denied the offence, claiming they arrived in Tarkwa, that very day from Accra on a motorcycle to look for business opportunities.
The prosecutor confirmed that the convicts were charged with the offence after concluding their investigations.
