The sign translator at Nelson Mandela's Memorial Service, who was accused of being a fake, and making up his own signs, has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital, local media report.
Thamsanqa Jantjie's wife reportedly took him to a psychiatric hospital near Johannesburg for a check-up on Tuesday December 18th, and the doctors suggested that he be admitted immediately, Johannesburg's The Star newspaper reports.

"The past few days have been hard. We have been supportive because he might have had a breakdown," Mrs Jantjie is quoted as saying.
However, when he was offered the job to interpret at the memorial service, it was the wife who called the hospital on his behalf and asked that he be given another date.
Meanwhile the company that employed him to do the interpretation at the memorial is reported to have "disappeared".
