What happens to the 3 cops who were Derek Chauvin's accomplices in George Floyd's death?

Three other Minneapolis cops still set to face trial in the death of George Floyd.

Although former officer Derek Chauvin was convicted Tuesday on all counts in the death of George Floyd, the attention now turns to the three other former officers who are still set to stand trial.

Ex-cops J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao who are currently all free on $750,000 bail are expected to appear for trial which is set to begin Aug. 23. 

As the New York Post notes, they face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder as well as second-degree manslaughter over the May 2020 death of Floyd. 

They are facing up to 40 years in prison on the top charge. While we wait for that, for Floyd’s family, the next step is legislative action, KARE11 reports. 

Rodney Floyd, George’s younger brother, spoke at a press conference held by the family and their attorney following Chauvin’s conviction and said they would “keep pressure on the Senate.” “We’re going to try to get the George Floyd Act passed,” Rodney said. The act, which was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives last June, addresses policing practices and law enforcement accountability. 

The bill passed in the House on March 3 and awaits a vote in the Senate, the news site notes.
