Photos & Videos: The Weeknd receives his own day in Toronto + his #SuperBowl LV #HalfTime performance

Just hours before he was set to take the stage for the Super Bowl LV halftime show, The Weeknd added another accomplishment to his lengthy resume: receiving his own day in his hometown of Toronto.
Before he invaded Tampa, Florida to perform at Super Bowl LV, his hometown of Toronto in Ontario, Canada decided to give him a huge honor.
On Sunday morning (Feb. 7), Mayor John Tory proclaimed that Feb. 7 will forever be known as “The Weeknd Day” in Toronto.
In a statement he posted to Twitter, Tory praises the “The Hills” singer’s accomplishments around the world. He also notes that The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, is the first Canadian to headline a solo halftime show and the third Canadian to hit the stage in the Super Bowl’s history. The Weeknd pulled out all the stops for his much-anticipated Super Bowl 2021 Halftime Show performance.
He arrived on a set that appeared to have a Vegas-style skyline alongside a choir performing in red goggle.
After months of preparation, The Weeknd takes his place at the helm of the stage for his first-ever solo halftime show performance at Super Bowl LV.
On Sunday (Feb. 7), The Weeknd lit up the stage. Performing a number of his classic hits such as “Starboy,” “I Feel It Coming,” “House of Balloons,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” “Save Your Tears,” “Earned It,” “Blinding Lights” and more, people watching the show both from the Super Bowl stadium in-person audience as well as those watching on their TVs at home loved every single minute of the halftime show.
Congratulations Abel Tesfaye!
