Photos: Dubai firm, Solarway donates solar lamps to help fight Ebola

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said there have been 4,818 reported deaths as of November 2.
Thousands of solar lamps have been donated to West Africa by a Dubai company to provide light to doctors treating Ebola patients.
Solarway has sent 5,000 lanterns to Last Mile Health Liberia and 5,000 to the Medical Research Centre Sierra Leone.
Another 20,000 are scheduled to arrive next week. Ebola is a highly infectious virus with symptoms of fever and severe internal bleeding, spread through contact with infected body fluids.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) said there have been more than 13,000 reported cases, with 4,818 reported deaths as of November 2.
Solarway CEO Marco Signorini wanted to use the firm’s products to help tackle the battle against Ebola.
Solarway CEO Marco Signorini, who is currently in Africa delivering the lamps, said he wanted to use the firm’s products to help tackle the battle against Ebola.
He said: “We have sent out 10,000 of our solar lanterns, which give up to 20 hours of light after just one charge. The lanterns also make it possible for those without the use of a typical plug socket to charge their mobile phone, which is another crucial part of supporting these people – communication.
“In a country where electricity is minimal, these healthcare workers are trying to save lives almost blind.
“The products are ideal for natural or human disasters and we knew that the products would really help those out there saving lives.”
There have been 1,731 cases in Guinea, 6,525 cases in Liberia and 4,759 in Sierra Leone, according to the WHO.
However, out of those cases, 1,041 people died due to the virus in Guinea, 2,697 died in Liberia and 1,070 died in Sierra Leone.
Signorini said: “Watching the epidemic unfold on the news and seeing how these people could really benefit from our help using solar lights, not only did we want to help, we needed to.”
