So tragic. Venezuelan beauty queen Genesis Carmona, who was crowned Miss Tourism for her home state of Carabobo in 2013, died Wed.Feb.19 after being shot during a protest march in Carabobo's capital, Valencia, on Tuesday, Feb. 18. She was 22 years old.
Her death was the fifth resulting from political unrest in the country, which has become increasingly violent since opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez was imprisoned following weeks of protests against President Nicolas Maduro.
"How long are we going to live like this?" a relative of Carmona's asked Reuters. "How long do we have to tolerate this pressure, with them killing us? [Genesis] only needed one more semester to graduate."
Sadly, Carmona isn't the first Venezuelan beauty queen whose death has made headlines in recent months. Back in early January, former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear and her ex-husband, Henry Thomas Berry, were murdered in an attempted highway robbery. They left behind a 5-year-old daughter, Maya.
CHAI! SAD!!
