News: WOWZA: Click here to watch 'live' streaming of Dubai's world record NYE fireworks

It promises to be a night of epic proportions, one that will certainly go down in history, as Dubai sets its sights on a world record amidst all the razzle dazzle and fanfare this city has mastered down to an art form.

While The Palm Jumeirah and The World Islands will play host to a glittering display of fireworks that will attempt the colossal task of setting off over 400,000 fireworks across 100km of shoreline, in just six minutes to set a new Guinness World Record, at the other end of the city stands the towering Burj Khalifa.

The world’s tallest building will impress with its iconic New Year’s Eve Gala and a spectacular fireworks display that will light up the imposing juggernaut once again.

Hosted by Emaar Properties, this year’s festivities are expected to break 2012’s record of 1.7 million visitors at Downtown Dubai.

The Dubai World Record team have roped in the men and women at Grucci to produce an unimaginable programme for tonight, including a laser etching of an aerial countdown, a pixel burst flying falcon and a UAE flag and a ‘sunrise’ at midnight.

Meanwhile, Emaar’s gala will be differentiated by 10 unprecedented fireworks acts including flowers in the colours of the national flag cascading down the tower, thousands of amethysts filling the sky, with fireworks evolving like petals and wrapping it up the tower much like the Hymenocallis desert flower, which inspired the design of Burj Khalifa.

However, even as the Roads and Transports Authority has launched a master plan to tackle the traffic chaos with 24-hour Dubai Metro operations and free bus rides to encourage the use of public transport, the Dubai Police have issued firm warning there will be zero tolerance to driving offences tonight.

In a statement, Deira and Bur Dubai traffic departments will deploy more than 150 traffic police officers and personnel on main roads and celebration areas, with the police stating they would not tolerate any violations or traffic obstruction and would take immediate action against those who caused any chaos, unruly noise or traffic obstruction, he said.

This includes instantly locking wheels of those vehicles whose drivers had parked in the middle of roads in an attempt to catch fireworks displays. Cars will also be impounded between three to six months.

To avoid the traffic chaos, authorities are encouraging residents to enjoy the live streaming of the fireworks across the various channels available. Emirates 24|7 gives you links to enjoy one of the greatest shows on earth from the comfort of your couch.
