Photos: Samuel Eto'o, Adebayor, Davido Post Banana Pics In Support Of Barcelona's Dani Alves

After Barcelona defender Dani Alves ate the banana that was thrown at him, he started a revolution. A few hours ago, it took over the social media especially Twitter!

The racist incident happened during Barcelona's match against Villarreal on Sunday, when a banana was thrown onto the pitch towards Dani Alves as he went to take a corner. Everyone was amazed as Dani picked it up, peeled it back and ate it. And since then, he has been receiving massive support against racism.

Speaking after the match Alves said:
"We have suffered this in Spain for some time, you have to take it with a dose of humour. We aren't going to change things easily. If you don't give it importance, they don't achieve their objective. I don’t know who it was, but thanks to whoever threw the banana, the potassium gave me the energy for the two crosses which led to a goal.”
The banana thrower has been identified and banned for life from games at the El Madrigal Stadium. The banana campaign for Alves has also gone viral with even our Davido sharing his own photo.

Photos: Lady dies in auto crash seconds after posting how happy Pharrell's "happy" makes her

Pharrell Williamshit single “Happy” was the source of a woman’s last online post before her unfortunate death.
According to Gawker, 32-year-old Courtney Ann Sanford was driving down the interstate in High Point, N.C. over the weekend and veered off the road, crossing a median and crashing head-first into a truck.
After her death, family and friends brought to officials’ attention that Sanford posted a status about “Happy” just seconds before she died.

Police also noticed Sanford had taken several selfies before the accident.
“The Facebook text happened at 8:33 a.m. We got the call on the wreck at 8:34 a.m.,” explains Lt. Chris Weisner, with the High Point Police Department.
Sanford was wearing her seatbelt, but it wasn’t used properly. Weisner says he hopes people will remember to refrain from texting/posting and driving.
“As sad as it is, it is a grim reminder for everyone… you just have to pay attention while you are in the car,” reminds Weisner.
Texting, posting, checking email, etc. is never OK to do while driving. Unfortunately, Sanford and her family had to learn the hard way.

Bottom line? Don't drive & use your phone or do anything else at that! May Sanford's soul RIP.

Video: Donald Sterling's Racist Remarks Addressed, NBA Bans & Fines Him

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver held a press conference this afternoon addressing Donald Sterling’s racist remarks.
From the press conference we learned Donald Sterling has been banned from the NBA for life. The NBA is also ‘urging’ a forced sale of the Clippers. Sterling will also be fined $2.5M, the max allowed. The money will go to anti-discriminatory efforts.
Here is the NBA’s official press release:

UPDATE: 4/29/14 1:40PM EST
The NBA has decided to suspend Donald Sterling, indefinitely. TMZ reports:
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has tentatively decided to suspend Clippers owner Donald Sterling INDEFINITELY and impose a multi-million-dollar fine — but Sterling will NOT be forced to sell the team — sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ Sports.

We’re told the suspension does NOT include members of Sterling’s immediate family, but the NBA will have approval rights on who is running the team.

We’re told Commissioner Adam Silver had a forensic expert review the recording and found no evidence it was altered and confirmed Sterling’s voice.

And we’re told … an NBA investigator spoke with Sterling by phone after we posted the recording and the Clippers owner agreed to sit down for a follow-up interview but then changed his mind and backed out.

And we’re Stiviano told NBA reps the same thing we’ve reported … that she had Sterling’s consent before she recorded him.

Dissent and protests continue to grow following the release of Donald Sterling’s racist remarks.
A handful of current and legendary basketball players have come forth to denounce the “plantation mentality” of the LA Clippers owner. Doc Rivers, coach of the basketball team, refuses to speak with Sterling. And the money is slowly drying up — as of Tuesday, major advertisers dropped their sponsorship of the team.
Meanwhile, Sterling’s family is torn about his racist viewpoints. After recordings allegedly captured Sterling telling his girlfriend, Vanessa (V.) Stiviano, not to associate with or bring black people to his games, his estranged wife, Shelly, released a statement denouncing his deplorable behavior. But yesterday, she told TMZ in an exclusive video that he was, in fact, not a racist. His son-in-law, however, has a different viewpoint, telling reporters that he doesn’t care what happens to his father.
Family drama aside, the NBA is expected to fine and suspend Sterling, forcing him to sell the team. An NBA source told Yahoo on Monday that Magic Johnson was interested in purchasing the Clippers. As of yet, there are no concrete plans pending the NBA investigation, but on Tuesday, the association plans to make a statement regarding their findings.
In the meantime, here’s what you need to know about the Sterling Scandal today:
Sponsorship Pulled:
Monday saw a domino effect of sponsors dropping out of their relationship with the LA Clippers. The first to jump ship was State Farm, who released this statement regarding their decision:
“The remarks attributed to the Clippers’ owner are offensive. While those involved sort out the facts, we will be taking a pause in our relationship with the organization,” State Farm said in an email statement. “We are monitoring the situation and we’ll continually assess our options.”
A handful soon followed. CarMax released this statement:
“These views directly conflict with CarMax’s culture of respect for all individuals. While we have been a proud Clippers sponsor for 9 years and support the team, fans and community, these statements necessitate that CarMax end its sponsorship.”
And others announced their terminated sponsorships via Twitter, including Kia, Amtrak and Virgin America. AquaHydrate, Red Bull, Sprint and Yokohama Tire Corporation also pulled their support. After a lengthy evaluation, Corona announced their suspension of sponsorship pending the NBA investigation.

Doc Rivers Releases A Statement:
On Monday evening, Doc Rivers, coach of the LA Clippers, released a statement regarding Sterling’s racist recordings.
“I would like to reiterate how disappointed I am in the comments attributed to [Donald Sterling] and I can’t even begin to tell you how upset I am and our players are,” the coach said in his statement.
“Today, I had a meeting with the members of our organization. When you are around all these people, you realize they are just as upset and embarrassed by the situation and it does not reflect who they really are. That was what I got from all of them,” Doc added. “They are now a part of this and they are upset at this. But, they are all going to hang in there and so are we – I can tell you that as a group and as a team. From our fans’ standpoint, I want to say that they have been amazing, I can tell you that. We need unbelievable support right now from other people and I’m hoping we get that. My hope is that whatever the fans do, it is as one. I think that is what we all should do.”

 V. Stiviano’s Relationship With Sterling:
Despite claiming she and Sterling’s relationship was “strictly business,” court documents show that Stiviano was in a long-standing courtship with the LA Clippers owner.
The documents — filed this month in connection with Shelly’s lawsuit against V. claiming she duped Donald into showering her with more than $2 mil in gifts — say the relationship between V. and Donald was “neither [a] hidden, closeted, nor a clandestine ‘affair’ at any time,” adding it was “open notorious, obvious and long standing.”

Miami Heat Takes A Stand:
Two days after the LA Clippers quietly protested Sterling’s racist remarks by turning their shirts inside out, their brothers on the East Coast are following suit.
The entire Miami Heat basketball team turned their warm-up gear inside out to show support for the Clippers. You can watch the show of solidarity above.
Sterling’s Son-In-Law Calls Him A Racist:
Eric Miller, Donald Sterling’s son-in-law and the Director of Basketball Administration for the Clippers, had this to say about Sterling’s racist remarks:
“I find the statements and representations made by the Clippers’ team owner to be deplorable and disgusting. There is no room in sports or society in general, for racism. I pledge my full support for the wonderful players, coaches and staff members of the Clippers organization.  I have complete faith that Commissioner Silver will deal with this matter swiftly and severely.”

NBA Authenticates Recordings:
According to TMZ, the NBA has authenticated the alleged audio of Donald Sterling’s racist remarks.
NBA lawyer David Anders and another NBA lawyer went to the law office of Mac Nehoray Monday afternoon.  Stiviano was also there for the purpose of authenticating the audio.

We’re told there was NO doubt by anyone the recording is the real deal.  The NBA lawyers heard the 15 minutes that have been made public, but not the remaining 45.  And we’re told … based on conversations along with analysis … they’re satisfied about authenticity.
Watch the association make a formal announcement today regarding their findings.

News: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Slams Donald Sterling’s Mistress For Her ‘Betrayal’

kaj

NBA legend Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who is known for speaking out on issues of race in the United States, has weighed in on the alleged racist ramblings of L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling.
Jabbar agreed that Sterling is clearly racist, but was more incensed by not only systems of oppression that breed the Donald Sterlings of the world, but the actions of Sterling’s mistress, V. Stiviano.
Yes, I’m angry, too, but not just about the sins of Donald Sterling. I’ve got a list. But let’s start with Sterling. I used to work for him, back in 2000 when I coached for the Clippers for three months. He was congenial, even inviting me to his daughter’s wedding. Nothing happened or was said to indicate he suffered from IPMS (Irritable Plantation Master Syndrome). Since then, a lot has been revealed about Sterling’s business practices:
  • 2006: U.S. Dept. of Justice sued Sterling for housing discrimination. Allegedly, he said, “Black tenants smell and attract vermin.”
  • 2009: He reportedly paid $2.73 million in a Justice Dept. suit alleging he discriminated against blacks, Hispanics, and families with children in his rentals. (He also had to pay an additional nearly $5 million in attorneys fees and costs due to his counsel’s “sometimes outrageous conduct.”)
  • 2009: Clippers executive (and one of the greatest NBA players in history) sued for employment discrimination based on age and race.
And now the poor guy’s girlfriend (undoubtedly ex-girlfriend now) is on tape cajoling him into revealing his racism. Man, what a winding road she led him down to get all of that out. She was like a sexy nanny playing “pin the fried chicken on the Sambo.” She blindfolded him and spun him around until he was just blathering all sorts of incoherent racist sound bites that had the news media peeing themselves with glee.
They caught big game on a slow news day, so they put his head on a pike, dubbed him Lord of the Flies, and danced around him whooping.
Make no mistake: Donald Sterling is the villain of this story. But he’s just a handmaiden to the bigger evil. In our quest for social justice, we shouldn’t lose sight that racism is the true enemy. He’s just another jerk with more money than brains.
So, if we’re all going to be outraged, let’s be outraged that we weren’t more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let’s be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let’s be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on Celebrity Apprentice and Dancing with the Stars.
Jabbar also wrote the following on his Facebook page:
Donald Sterling’s recent comments confirm that he is guilty of the systematic racism that he’s been accused of for the past 14 years. The best possible outcome would be for him to voluntarily give up his franchise so a new owner who reflects the values of America can take over. In the meantime, we all need to continue to support the Clippers, who clearly are enduring a moral crisis. At a time like this, it’s important that they remember that, though the team is owned by Sterling, they are not defined by him anymore than Americans are defined by any one elected official. The players are defined by their actions. And right now their actions should reflect their commitment to the fans and to showing the world that the players live up to the principles of equality.

Photos: The 50 Best Restaurants in the World 2014 Announced

If you’ve ever sighed happily over a trattoria’s perfect tagliatelle or bistro’s savory coq au van and declared, “That was the best meal ever!” the experts would respectfully disagree.
That is, unless, such a statement were made at Noma in Copenhagen, which was just awarded the top spot in the 2014 big reveal of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Selected by an influential group of more than 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry, the list is a who’s who in the global gastronomic scene, from Bilboa to Bangkok.
Known for its seasonal, Scandinavian innovations like sea urchin toast and caramelized milk and cod liver, Noma (overseen by chef-owner René Redzepi) reclaimed its top spot after being dethroned in 2013 by Spain’s El Celler De Can Roca (this year’s no. 2). In other words, 2014 is all about the Danish.
While a globe-trotting culinary jaunt sounds divine, there are plenty of World’s Best options to be sampled Stateside, including Coi in San Francisco (a newcomer at no. 49), The French Laundry in Yountville, Calif. (no. 44), and New York City’s Daniel (no. 40), Per Se (no. 30) and Le Bernardin (no. 21). Breaking into the top 10 are Alinea in Chicago (no. 9) and Eleven Madison Park in N.Y.C (at no. 4, it’s now the hottest restaurant in North America).
Check the list below, did your fave make it? Ever lunched or dined in any, tell us your experience.
