Italy failed to reach the World Cup finals for the first time in 60 years after falling to a play-off defeat by Sweden on Monday night.
Gian Puiero Ventura's side was unable to overturn a one-goal deficit from the first-leg in Stockholm last week and have failed to reach their first World Cup since 1958.
