News: Obasanjo’s Son, Boye Shot By Boko Haram, In Stable Condition

Lieutenant Colonel Adeboye Obasanjo, the son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was shot in the thigh yesterday by Boko Haram insurgents at Baza near Mubi in Adamawa State is in stable condition, according to Doyin Okupe, a senior special assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a brief tweet today, Mr. Okupe, who is a medical doctor by training, said he had just spoken to the former’s president son and described him as being in stable condition.
Colonel Obasanjo, who is fondly called Boye, was leading a platoon of Nigerian soldiers yesterday on an operation against members of the  terror group, Boko Haram, whensome insurgent fighters ambushed him and his subordinates. Colonel Obasanjo’s platoon was part of a military mission to liberate the town of Michika and other surrounding towns, including the hometown of Major General J.S. Zaruwa, the General Officer Commanding the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
Our military sources disclosed that the insurgents killed 24 soldiers in Colonel Obasanjo’s Boye’s column. Among the casualties was an unnamed colonel. The former president’s son received gunshot wounds in his legs. Our sources revealed that the militants also seized an armored tank in the military column as it ran out of gas.

Boko Haram militants attacked a platoon led by the son of former Nigerian president Obansanjo, shooting him today. He sustained serious injuries to his legs, and was being transported to the hospital at the time of this report.

Adeboye Obasanjo, an army engineer, was a Lieutenant Colonel at the 3rd Division in Jos, Plateau State.
He and his platoon were engaged with Boko Haram militants at Baza, which is the village of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the division when the incident took place.
24 soldiers in the platoon were killed.
Adamawa state university was shut yesterday and students sent home as Boko Haram fighters continued their incursion into Adamawa State.
To prevent an attack on students, the Adamawa State Government shut the State University in Mubi as the insurgents overran Uba, a town five kilometres from Mubi.
